Short Information: JNV Class 11 Admission 2027 Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the Prospectus-cum-Notification for Class 11 Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027 for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the 2027-28 academic session. The admission will be against vacant Class 11 seats likely to be available in participating JNVs. The last date to register online is September 30, 2026, while the selection test is scheduled for April 10, 2027.

Students currently studying in Class 10 during the 2026-27 session and meeting the prescribed age, school and district conditions can apply. Registration is free of cost through the NVS application portal. Candidates should complete the form carefully because information submitted online will be used for further processing and will later be verified through original documents.

The Class 11 lateral entry test is not for a fixed number of vacancies announced nationwide. Selection will depend on the actual/anticipated vacancies in a particular JNV and stream, availability of accommodation and NVS rules. The notification officially confirms September 30, 2026 as the application deadline and April 10, 2027 as the selection-test date.

Who Can Apply for JNV Class 11 Admission 2027?

Candidates must satisfy all prescribed eligibility conditions.

Age Limit :JNV Class 11 Admission 2027

The candidate’s date of birth must be between:

June 1, 2010 and July 31, 2012, both dates inclusive.

This age condition applies to candidates of all categories, including SC and ST candidates.

Class 10 Requirement

The candidate must be studying in Class 10 during the 2026-27 academic session. Students who passed Class 10 before the 2026-27 session are not eligible.

School and District Requirement

The candidate must be studying Class 10 in a Government or Government-recognised school affiliated with CBSE, a State Education Board or another recognised board.

Importantly, the school must be located in the same district where the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located.

Nationality

Only Indian Nationals studying Class 10 in India are eligible to apply.

Who Is Not Eligible?

Students who have already passed Class 10 before the 2026-27 session cannot apply. The opportunity is meant for students who are studying Class 10 during the 2026-27 session.

How Will Class 11 Selection Be Done?

NVS will fill Class 11 seats only against vacancies that remain after students already studying in JNVs complete the Class 10 stage.

The selection process involves a district-level merit list, followed by a State-level merit list for remaining vacancies. Residence and Class 10 study in the concerned district are important for district-level selection. Candidates from one state cannot seek admission in another state through this process.

Candidates can opt for up to two streams, and for each stream they can select a maximum of three JNVs from the options available on the portal.

Once a candidate is selected for a particular JNV and stream against a vacancy, a change of JNV or stream will not be entertained.

Which Streams Are Available?

The prospectus covers the following Class 11 streams:

• Science
• Commerce
• Humanities
• Vocational

However, availability is JNV-specific and subject to vacancies, facilities and accommodation. The detailed JNV-wise stream availability is provided in Annexure III of the prospectus.

Stream-Wise Merit Criteria

For Science, Physics and Chemistry are compulsory; for Commerce, Accountancy, Business and Economics are compulsory; and for Humanities, History, Geography and Economics are compulsory.

JNV Class 11 Selection Test Pattern

The examination will contain 100 objective-type questions for 100 marks. There will be five sections, with 20 questions in each section.

The examination will be conducted from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Divyang students will receive an additional 50 minutes as per government norms.

The question paper will be available in English and Hindi. Candidates must mark their answers on an OMR sheet using a blue or black ball-point pen. Pencil use is prohibited. There is no negative marking, and each correct answer carries one mark.

Minimum Qualifying Marks and Merit Cut-Off

Candidates must secure at least 6 marks out of 20 in each of the five subjects.

For preparation of the stream-wise merit list, an overall cut-off out of 60 is also prescribed:

• General/OBC Boys: 21 marks
• General/OBC Girls: 20 marks
• SC/ST/Divyang candidates: 18 marks

NVS has also retained the right to modify the selection criteria if required for administrative reasons.

Reservation for Class 11 Lateral Entry

Vacant seats under categories such as Rural, Girl, SC, ST, OBC and Divyang are to be filled by candidates belonging to the respective categories, subject to NVS rules.

For OBC candidates, the notification specifies that the Central List of OBC will apply. Candidates whose caste is not included in the Central OBC list are required to apply as General candidates.

A candidate studying Class 10 in a rural-area school is considered under the rural category. If the candidate has studied in an urban-area school even for a single day during the session, the candidate is treated as an urban candidate under the stated rules.

Important Correction Window Note

The prospectus provides for a correction window after the application deadline. However, there is an inconsistency within the document: one section states that the correction window will be open for three days, while another section says two days. Therefore, candidates should rely on the correction-window dates displayed on the official application portal rather than assuming a duration.

Provisionally selected candidates will have to produce documents for verification. These include:

• Birth certificate
• Class 10 pass certificate
• Proof of eligibility
• Residence certificate/proof, where applicable
• Rural-area certificate, if applying under rural category
• Aadhaar Card

• OBC/category certificate, wherever applicable

The OBC certificate must support the candidate’s claim under the applicable Central OBC list.

Candidates should not obtain the Transfer Certificate from their existing school until document verification and admission confirmation by the concerned JNV.

The Lateral Entry Selection Test application is free of cost.

JNV education itself is provided with facilities including boarding and lodging, uniforms and textbooks. The prospectus states that students of Classes IX to XII are generally charged ₹600 per month towards Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, while SC/ST students, Divyang students, all girls and students from BPL families are exempted. Different provisions apply to eligible wards of government employees as specified by NVS.

Admit Card and Result : JNV Class 11 Admission 2027

The admit card will be made available through the application portal on a date to be announced by NVS. Candidates will have to download it free of cost before the examination. They must appear only at the examination centre allotted on the admit card and carry a valid government-issued ID.

The Class 11 Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027 result is likely to be announced in May/June 2027. Results will be available through the application portal and will show details such as the selected stream, JNV and district/state merit. Provisionally selected students will also be informed by the concerned JNV through SMS followed by speed post.

What Happens After Selection?

Selection through the test is provisional. Admission will be confirmed only after verification of the required documents and fulfillment of NVS conditions. Students must also pass Class 10 in the 2026-27 session.

Newly admitted students will undergo a medical check-up and a 10-day orientation programme intended to help them adjust to the new environment and bridge learning gaps.
