Education Qualification

Educational qualification and age limits differ according to the organisation and post.

Junior Engineer – Civil

Depending on the organisation, candidates may need a Degree or three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution. Certain posts, including those in BRO and MES, require relevant work experience when a Diploma qualification is used.

Junior Engineer – Electrical/Mechanical

For relevant posts, candidates may require a Degree or three-year Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Where experience is prescribed, it must have been obtained after acquiring the required educational qualification. Internship, training or research undertaken during the course of obtaining the qualification will not count as the required experience.

Junior Engineer – Telecom

The Department of Telecommunications requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in specified disciplines including Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation. The age limit for this post is up to 30 years.

Scientific Assistant – IMD

Candidates can qualify through a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or through specified degrees in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering. The age limit is up to 30 years.

Age Limit for SSC JE 2026

The crucial date for calculating age is August 1, 2026.

  • For posts with an upper age limit of 30 years, candidates must have been born between August 2, 1996 and August 1, 2008.
  • For posts with an upper age limit of 32 years, candidates must have been born between August 2, 1994 and August 1, 2008.

Application Fee : SSC JE Recruitment 2026

The SSC JE 2026 application fee is ₹100.

Women candidates, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempt from paying the application fee. The fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or eligible debit cards.

Candidates should ensure that the payment is successfully received by SSC. If the fee is not received, the application will be treated as incomplete and can be rejected.

How to Apply for SSC JE Recruitment 2026

Candidates must first complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website. An OTR created on the old SSC website will not work on the new website. Once created on the new website, the OTR remains valid for examinations conducted through that website.

  2. Select the appropriate post.
  3. Enter educational qualification and other required details.

  8. Submit the form and keep a copy for future reference.

The application can be submitted through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application.

Photograph and Signature Requirements

SSC’s application system captures a real-time photograph during the application process. Candidates should use good lighting, a plain background and an eye-level camera position. The face should be fully visible, and candidates should not wear a cap, mask or spectacles while capturing the photograph.

The scanned signature should be in JPEG/JPG format, between 10 KB and 20 KB, with dimensions of approximately 6 cm × 2 cm.

Candidates using Aadhaar-Based Authentication receive certain exemptions from photograph/signature-related rejection conditions specified in the notice.

Candidates eligible for the prescribed scribe facility receive 2 hours 40 minutes for each paper.

Paper-I

Paper-I includes:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning – 50 questions/50 marks
  • General Awareness – 50 questions/50 marks
  • Engineering/subject-specific section – 100 questions/100 marks

The subject section depends on the post and educational qualification. Paper-I is qualifying in nature and is used to shortlist candidates for Paper-II.

Paper-II

Paper-II contains the relevant engineering or subject paper and carries 300 marks for 100 questions. Only candidates shortlisted through Paper-I proceed to this stage.

Negative Marking

Candidates should be particularly careful while attempting questions because negative marking applies:

  • Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer
  • Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer

Both papers consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions, and questions are set in Hindi and English.

SSC will also provide a scientific calculator on the computer screen during the examination. Physical calculators will not be permitted inside the exam lab.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying marks prescribed for both Paper-I and Paper-II are:

  • UR: 30%
  • OBC/EWS: 25%
  • All other categories: 20%

Paper-I remains qualifying in nature, while normalized Paper-II marks are used for final merit.

SSC JE 2026 Syllabus

For Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the standard of questions is approximately at Diploma in Engineering level. For Computer Science & Information Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Physics and Telecommunication, the standard is approximately at graduation level.

Civil Engineering

Major areas include Engineering Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Construction Materials and Management, Estimating and Costing, Concrete Structures, Steel Structures, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Irrigation, Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering.

Electrical Engineering

The syllabus covers Electrical Engineering fundamentals, Magnetic Circuits, AC Fundamentals, Measurements, Electrical Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilisation of Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics and Power Electronics.

Mechanical Engineering

Important areas include Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Machine Design, Materials Science, Thermal Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Machinery, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology and Advanced Manufacturing Processes.

Other Subjects

The notification also provides detailed syllabi for Computer Science & IT, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Physics and Telecommunication Engineering.

SSC JE 2026 Selection Process

Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on their normalized Paper-I marks, subject to the prescribed minimum qualifying marks. Separate merit lists are prepared for the relevant posts.

Final selection and allocation are based on Paper-II performance and the post/organisation preferences submitted by candidates. Normalized Paper-II marks are used for determining final merit.

Candidates must therefore be careful while submitting post preferences. Once submitted, the preferences are treated as final and cannot subsequently be changed.

Important Note for BRO Applicants

Candidates applying for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation must meet the prescribed physical and medical standards, including the Physical Efficiency Test requirements.

The notification specifically states that only male candidates are eligible for JE posts in BRO. Candidates should carefully check the applicable standards before giving their post preferences.

SSC JE 2026 Correction Window

Candidates who successfully submit their application within the prescribed period can make corrections during the correction window from September 28 to September 30, 2026, up to 11:00 PM.

The correction facility can be used twice:

  • First correction: ₹200
  • Second correction: ₹500

The charges apply to candidates irrespective of gender or category. After the correction window closes, SSC will not accept further changes.

Admission Certificate and Examination Centre

SSC will not send Admission Certificates by post or email. Candidates must download them from the Commission’s website. Examination city and centre information is expected to be uploaded around 10 days before the examination, while the facility to download the Admission Certificate is expected to be available around 3–4 days before the examination.

Candidates who have not undergone Aadhaar-Based Authentication must report two hours before the scheduled examination start time and carry the Admission Certificate, at least two recent passport-size colour photographs and an original valid photo ID with date of birth.
