Age Limit

Candidates must have attained 21 years and must not have attained 32 years as on January 1, 2027.

• Assistant Geologist: Master’s or Integrated Master’s degree in specified Geology-related disciplines.

Important Certificate Rule for OBC and EWS Candidates

Candidates claiming reservation benefits must have the required certificates in the prescribed format by the closing date of the application.

For EWS candidates, the Income & Asset Certificate must be based on FY 2025-26, issued on or after April 1, 2026, and available by September 22, 2026.

For OBC candidates, the OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate must be based on income for FY 2025-26, 2024-25 and 2023-24, issued on or after April 1, 2026, and available by the application closing date.

Preliminary Exam Pattern :UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 

The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective papers for each stream.

Each paper is of 2 hours duration. The objective papers carry negative marking: one-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for an incorrect answer. No penalty is imposed for leaving a question unanswered.

Main Examination Pattern :UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 

The Main Examination carries 600 marks and consists of three conventional-type papers for each applicable stream.

For Geologist and Geophysicist streams, the three papers are based on the respective subjects. For the Chemistry stream, there are three Chemistry papers. The Hydrogeology stream consists of two Geology papers and one Hydrogeology paper.

Each Main paper carries 200 marks and has a duration of 3 hours.

The Personality Test/Interview carries 200 marks.

What Is in the Preliminary Syllabus?

The General Studies paper is common to all streams and covers:
